Cowboys expect Micah Parsons at voluntary workouts amid negotiations

Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said he expects star Micah Parsons to take part in the team's voluntary offseason workouts despite ongoing contract negotiations. The workouts begin Monday. The Dallas Morning News reported late last week that Parsons was seeking a record-setting $200 million contract extension that would make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. And while there had been thoughts that the pass rusher would hold out of team activities until a deal is done, Schottenheimer said at the NFL annual meeting in Florida that he didn't think so."Hey, look, at the end of the day this is a business and when you're dealing with the money that's being tossed around, not just with Micah but with the big-name players, negotiations sometimes take time," the first-year coach said, per ESPN. "I feel very comfortable. Micah said he's going to be around. I think that he wants to be. I think we're all very comfortable with that."With the departure of longtime defensive leader DeMarcus Lawrence, Parsons has a chance to fill that void.

Cowboys All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons is seeking a $200 million contract extension, The Dallas Morning News reported. That total would serve as the largest deal ever for a non-quarterback in NFL history.Conversations between Parsons' representation and members of the Cowboys' front office were conducted at the NFL Scouting Combine in late February. It's been quiet on the front since then, per the report.Sizable contracts for non-quarterbacks are nothing new this offseason.Las Vegas Raiders star edge rusher Maxx Crosby signed a three-year, $106.5 million deal, only to be trumped by Cleveland Browns standout defensive end Myles Garrett inking a four-year, $160 million. Cincinnati Bengals All-Pro wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase reeled in a four-year, $161 million pact.

Cowboys rework Dak Prescott’s deal, open up $36.6M in cap space

The Dallas Cowboys restructured quarterback Dak Prescott's contract on Wednesday, carving out $36.6 million in cap space, according to multiple reports. The Cowboys created a total of $56.6 million under the 2025 salary cap the past two days by reworking wide receiver CeeDee Lamb's contract on Tuesday before addressing Prescott's deal.Pass rusher Micah Parsons is expected to receive a long-term extension this offseason to avoid a contentious holdout the likes of which dominated training camp last summer, where Lamb refused to report and perform on the fifth-year option in his rookie contract.Parsons' value could be impacted by the agreement announced Wednesday between the Raiders and defensive end Maxx Crosby, who became the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL with a three-year, $106.5 million extension. The Cowboys converted $45.75 million of Prescott's 2025 salary into a signing bonus. Prescott signed a four-year, $240 million extension with the club last September. He'll now count $52.9 million against the Cowboys' cap in 2025.

Cowboys' Dak Prescott says 'it's our turn' to win a Super Bowl

The Philadelphia Eagles were crowned Super Bowl champions for the second time in eight seasons, and the quarterback of an NFC East rival believes his team could be next.Dak Prescott voiced his thoughts on the similarities between the Eagles and his Dallas Cowboys, who have failed to reach a conference championship game since the 1995-96 season."I feel like we've competed with the Eagles and beat them for the most part when we've played them," Prescott said while acting as an honorary chairman for the Children's Cancer Fund's gala. "I don't want to say, 'Check the record,' when the other guy is holding the trophy, right? So credit to them."They've earned it, and they deserve it by all means. But, yeah, (we're) very close."Prescott is 9-4 in head-to-head matchups against the Eagles over the years, all in the regular season. With a 2-5 career playoff record, though, Prescott has never advanced beyond the divisional round.Another NFC East quarterback, rookie Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders, won his first two playoff starts before losing in the conference title game to the eventual champions."Especially even watching the NFC championship and those two teams (the Eagles and Commanders) -- teams that we battle against each and every year a couple of times," Prescott said, "... (I) feel confident that we've gotten the better part each and every time. But just seeing such a dominating fashion (from the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs), credit to them.

Super 'shocker' for Jerry Jones: Cowboys not in Super Bowl LIX

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX and the accompanying festivities, but the trip hasn't been exactly what he expected, apparently. In an interview with The Athletic, Jones said it is a "shocker" that his team isn't in the big game, especially after he invested a total of $376 million -- including $331 million in guarantees -- in contract extensions for Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb."I wouldn't have signed Dak Prescott, the highest-paid player in the NFL, if now wasn't when we wanted to win," Jones said. "This is a shocker to be here at this Super Bowl and not have the Cowboys here. I didn't plan on that when I made that agreement with him. So we're going to do everything we can to get there."Instead, the Cowboys finished the regular season at 7-10, and Prescott suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in Week 9.Head coach Mike McCarthy and the Cowboys split after the season, with Brian Schottenheimer being promoted from offensive coordinator to head coach.

Colorado's Deion Sanders: Zero interest in coaching 'pro ball,' Cowboys

Deion Sanders stayed at Colorado after interest from the Dallas Cowboys in hiring the Hall of Fame cornerback to return the NFL as Mike McCarthy's replacement. But the pro game is, well, too "Primetime" for even Sanders these days, he said on "We Got Time Today" on Tubi in a discussion about contact from the Cowboys with Troy Aikman."I couldn't coach pro ball," Sanders said."That's why I say, I couldn't coach -- I know it was cute. But I couldn't coach pro ball, because the way they practice, the way they go about it, I couldn't take it. As a man, and as a football enthusiast, and I care about the game. The game is still providing for Troy and I, so there is no way I could allow that to happen on my watch. That would be tough."The sentiment is not new for Sanders. He told "60 Minutes" in 2022 he wouldn't be interested by any NFL opening. He's 13-12 in two seasons as head coach at Colorado. The Buffaloes went 9-4 last season and cornerback-wide receiver Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy. The Cowboys last appeared in a Super Bowl in 1996, a roster that featured Sanders, Aikman, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith and Charles Haley.

Cowboys star G Zack Martin weighing whether to play in 2025

Longtime Dallas Cowboys star guard Zack Martin is pondering whether to play in 2025 and said Tuesday he will make a decision in four to six weeks. The nine-time Pro Bowler missed the last seven games of the season due to season-ending ankle surgery. The 34-year-old Martin said getting healthy is his first priority and then the decision about his playing future will follow."First off, I want to try to get healthy. Here in the next month, six weeks, me and my wife have been talking about it," Martin said of his decision timeline. "Right now, I'm focused on getting healthy and seeing how I feel with this ankle kind of repaired and whether or not I'm going to go out and try to go again."The seven-time first-team All-Pro acknowledged the mental component will also factor in the decision."Just mentally if I'm ready to, I know what it takes to be an elite player in this league and what all goes into it," Martin said while in New Orleans for the Super Bowl. "I think I just got to get my head mentally around if I want to commit to that for another year or not."Another caveat is that Martin's contract with the Cowboys is up. The potential Pro Football Hall of Famer will become a free agent in March and could leave after 11 seasons and 162 regular-season games (all starts) in Dallas.Mike McCarthy departed as coach after the season so Dallas will have a new head man in Brian Schottenheimer, who was offensive coordinator the past two seasons and on the staff for the last three.
Myles Garrett Next Team Odds: Homeward bound to Dallas?

Myles Garrett Next Team Odds: Homeward bound to Dallas?

The Cleveland Browns might regret deciding not to move Myles Garrett before this season's trade deadline.Arguably the NFL's most feared pass rusher, Garrett wants a change of NFL addresses so he can pursue a Super Bowl title with a team ready to win now. There figures to be no shortage of suitors among contending teams for the former No. 1 overall pick who turned 29 years old in December.Dallas owner Jerry Jones could swiftly sweep the criticism of his handling of the Cowboys' coaching change under the rug by acquiring the Arlington, Texas, native who starred at Texas A&M. Dallas finished 28th in total defense this season and next-to-last in allowing an average of 27.5 points per game.Garrett would make for a potential dynamic duo with Micah Parsons. They were ranked as the second- and third-best pass rushers in the league this season, respectively, by ProFootballFocus.com, behind only Detroit's Aidan Hutchinson. The Cowboys were quickly installed as the +400 favorites to land Garrett should the Browns deal the four-time first-team All-Pro this offseason.Washington reached the NFC Championship Game despite a porous defense, and the Commanders hold the second shortest odds at +600, followed by the Kansas City Chiefs at +700.Another potential interesting destination is Las Vegas. While the Raiders' roster would appear to be closer to rebuilding mode than title push, the Raiders didn't hire 73-year-old coach Pete Carroll with the long game in mind. The Raiders hold some intriguing assets, including the No. 6 and No. 37 overall draft picks in 2025, and veteran pass rusher Maxx Crosby. Whether Garrett would be open to Las Vegas is unknown, but the Raiders were installed with +700 odds.MYLES GARRETT NEXT TEAM ODDS*Dallas Cowboys (+400)Washington Commanders (+500)Kansas City Chiefs (+600)Las Vegas Raiders (+700)San Francisco 49ers (+800)Philadelphia Eagles (+900)Buffalo Bills (+1000)Green Bay Packers (+1000)Detroit Lions (+1400)Miami Dolphins (+1600)New England Patriots (+1600)Denver Broncos (+1800)Los Angeles Chargers (+1800)Chicago Bears (+2000)Minnesota Vikings (+2000)Baltimore Ravens (+2500)Pittsburgh Steelers (+2500)Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+2500)Cincinnati Bengals (+3300)New York Jets (+3300)

Cowboys hire Cards OL coach Klayton Adams as OC

The Dallas Cowboys hired Arizona Cardinals offensive line coach Klayton Adams as their new offensive coordinator, the team announced on Saturday morning. He replaces Brian Schottenheimer, who last month was promoted to head coach after the Cowboys parted ways with Mike McCarthy following the season. The hiring of Adams would seem to indicate an increased focus on the running game in Dallas for next season. Adams, 41, worked the past two seasons for the Cardinals after spending four years with the Indianapolis Colts as an assistant offensive line coach (2019-20) and tight ends coach (2021-22).Under Adams, the Cardinals ranked seventh in the league in 2024 in rushing yards (144.2 per game) and 11th in total offense. The Cowboys, meanwhile, ranked 27th on the ground at 100.3 ypg and had the fewest rushing touchdowns in the NFL with six.One of the names most frequently connected to the Cowboys when it comes to the NFL draft in April is Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who led the nation with 2,601 rushing yards and 29 rushing touchdowns last season while finishing second in the Heisman Trophy voting.Dallas has the 12th pick in the first round after finishing 7-10 in 2024.
