So it isn’t so…

Yesterday the Twitter world damn near exploded when UFC superstar Conor McGregor announced his retirement, and I’ve gotta tell you my head nearly exploded as well. The questions starting multiplying exponentially, as Carlyle and I and our listeners were trying to figure out why the sport’s biggest star was calling it a day. As a result of this announcement and the fact that he did not want to leave Iceland where he has been training for a rematch with Nate Diaz on UFC 200 in July in Las Vegas, UFC Boss Dana White pulled him from the card.  Like so many others, I am disappointing in this turn of events. Love him or hate him, if indeed he is hell bent on retiring for the many reasons many have speculated, which we won’t get into now, till more is revealed, this will leave a huge void for the UFC, but it will not bring it down. His charisma, smack talk, and his remarkable talent are incredibly awesome but as with anything in life there is a long line of guys ready to take on his role, and Dana White has no worries. One of the prevailing thoughts is that this is over money, of course most things always are. The UFC is notorious for not really paying their fighters the best for what the UFC brings in from the gates, merchandise, pay per views, the infamous Reebok deal etc. Other organizations such as Bellatore are starting to see many UFC fighters jump the fence in the interest of making more money. If it is indeed a money play, I don’t think Conor will win this one, or will he? Should White start worrying about more of an exodus of fighters leaving, or is the UFC such an empire that can’t be shakin up. Who knows? All I know that McGregor retiring and not being on UFC 200 is not cool, to that I say come on Conor say it isn’t so, talk to daddy Dana and resolve this mess otherwise we’re gonna see you on an under card with  Kimbo Slice and Shamrock 4…
