Oh man how the mighty have fallen, I’m talking about the 2016/17 Los Angeles Lakers. Ouch, last season was a disaster, this year is just as horrible and may have hit an all-time low for this storied franchise. I’ve got to ask you Laker fan, how does this feel? How can you all just watch this happen? I know things in life happen in cycles, you win you lose you win again, but what we are seeing in this team, just even as a NBA fan not a Laker fan, is unacceptable. Monday night in Salt Lake City, Utah during the continuation of the farewell to Kobe Bryant tour, the Jazz shellacked the Lakers by the score of 123-75, six players from Utah finished in double figures, and as a team the Jazz shot 51.7 percent, and 53.1 percent from three, while the Lakers shot a dismal 30.6 percent and 35 percent from three. This was the worst defeat in Kobe Bryants career, outside of a 48 point loss where he was injured in 2014. What is to become of this team, certainly they have some young talent in which they can work with, but the real problem is in coaching and what the Buss family intend to do to bring this franchise not only to respectability, but to be the royalty of the NBA again, and to contend with their neighbors to the north (Golden State), oh and not to mention the team in which they share a building with the Clippers. I understand teams can go through tumult and turmoil, when someone like Dr. Buss passes away that is a big challenge, but sheesh these are the Lakers we are talking about, the league is better when this franchise is good, not the laughing stock it is now. So once this season is done, and Kobe is gone, the draft comes along and free agency begins, and even more importantly looking to replace Byron Scott as a head coach, will LA get showtime again, or is it still gonna be more bad Lifetime drama for the Purple and Gold… I hope not because while the Warriors, Spurs and Clippers are competitive, I sure miss the good ole days, of hating the Lakers cause they were good, not because they are unwatchable.
