Just a weird, inexplicable feeling, based on nothing factual. In reality it was based on fairy-tale. I had a feeling about the Broncos. My buddies told me I was nuts. I believed I was crazy. Nothing practical said the Broncos could beat the Panthers and win the Super Bowl. But, in sports, so often the fairy tale endings, the ones where the planets line up just right, tend to happen without explanation. In this case, Peyton Manning, in the twilight moment of his career (hopefully), got that elusive second championship, in a game where he played a minor role. It was the NFL’s “Golden Game”; the 50th Super Bowl. The old guard against the young gun, Cam Newton. And I believe, it was justice for Peyton to go out on top. A man, who I consider the best regular season quarterback in the history of the game, who is classy in victory as well as in defeat, to get that second ring. Peyton has not had great post-season success and his critics have been all over him for years because of that. For me, it was great to see a class act, a seemingly good man and great teammate, to be a part of an improbable, memorable run. And it’s a perfect fairy-tale ending for Peyton to walk away from the game. And. by the way, him not announcing his retirement after the game, and taking away the spotlight from his teammates winning the Super Bowl was another sign of class displayed by Peyton. Cheers to him on a great career.
