On the verge?
Are we on the verge of seeing something special with the Lobos men’s basketball team? I say yes, now will it happen overnight, no but hear me out. Despite some very frustrating times, in which we’ve seen this team play flat, sloppy, maybe a little confused etc., and don’t forget there is no prototypical point guard starting on this team, something Lobo fans love to drone about over and over, I still see some things I do like going forward. Much like the Lobo Football team under Bob Davie, time to develop players, in terms of their chemistry and growth individually takes requires work, while I’m not asking that it should take an entire season for growth to happen, realistically it doesn’t happen overnight. I’m about to use a bad word no fan wants to hear but I’m gonna say it anyway, “patience”, standby, I think things are coming into real good play for this squad despite some challenges. Example, freshman Dane Kuiper, did you see his performance Saturday against the San Jose St. Spartans? He recorded 11 points, 4 rebounds, four assists, and also had 2 blocks and a steal…those were his first real minutes in a game, to me that is significant. Will that always be the case, no, but there is talent on this team, and when they can figure out how to find their stride and consistency, I say Mountain West lookout! There are some play makers on this team, it’s gonna be a roller coaster ride of good and bad for now, but I somehow think this roller coaster turns into a sharp fast train on some level tracks.
