I, like most of you have been watching the Jon “Bones” Jones story play out this week. I’ve heard all kinds of reactions to this story, ranging from disgust, to disbelief, to anger. I don’t think I have any of those emotions. I think I am just sad. First and foremost I’m sad for the woman who police say is pregnant and suffered a broken arm in the accident. In some respects, all involved were very lucky that this wasn’t much, much worse. And I’m sad for Jon. I don’t know Jon Jones well, but I do know that he is an amazingly talented athlete with so much to look forward to. If what we are hearing is true, Jon has made some bad decisions and now that bright future is in jeopardy. It’s not over for Jon after having his UFC title stripped and being suspended indefinitely by the organization. We have seen many athletes…heck, we’ve seen many people hit a crossroads in their lives and turn things around. I hope this is rock-bottom for Jon. Hopefully this incident will be an eye-opener and there are people in his life who can help him get things turned around. I don’t think Jon Jones is a bad person. I don’t think that at all. Heck, good people make bad decisions all the time. Everything I hear about Jon is he is a great guy. Well, this “great guy” has evidently made some bad decisions. I’m rooting for him to get the help he needs and turn things around. And most of all, I’m glad the woman who was hit in this accident will be OK and her unborn child should have a chance at a great future.
