What will history say?
History as we know may be made on Monday April, 6th if Kentucky wins this weekend’s Final Four matchup versus Wisconsin, and advances to the Championship Game in the NCAA Tournament against either Duke or Michigan St. If they defeat either one of those teams, they will become the first undefeated team since the 1975-76 Indiana Hoosiers under head coach Bobby Knight. With such a daunting task on the line, what will history ultimately say if this task is accomplished? To me it’s a little more than just a team who goes 40-0 but the man who will lead them to it. Coach John Calipari indeed is one of the game’s most prolific head coaches in college basketball, but let’s not forget he has had some controversy in his body of work. Under his tenure he has had NCAA violations that forced him to vacate Final Four appearances with UMass and Memphis. A true leader of men, and X’s and O’s guy, but his integrity should be questioned. Having had violations once is one thing, but let’s face it, this is America it is not uncommon for a second chance. But doing it a second time, then indicates to me he shouldn’t be let off the hook so easy. If history is made, so be it. It would be a great achievement and a huge feather in his cap, but don’t rewrite history or omit the fact that violations happened under his watch at the two previous programs, I would hope he is mindful of his wrongdoings and we don’t come back to hear the same of his Kentucky program. Stay clean, Calipari. Third time’s a charm. If they go all the way?
