Buck Stops Here

A November to remember? That’s what New Mexico football is hoping. The Lobos are 4-4 overall, 2-2 in Mountain West play and two wins from becoming bowl eligible. This month presents the toughest four game stretch on the schedule, Utah Stat, at Boise State, Colorado State and Air Force. UNM does get three of those at home but they haven’t performed at a level where there is confidence they could win one let alone two of those games. Having a shot at their goal, a bowl game, is a step forward for Bob Davie’s team. However it only looks like a half-step forward when you look at the performances to this point. Finding a consistent playmaker at the quarterback position tops the list. The Lobos thought their offense would be their identity and unit to lean on. Sophomore Lamar Jordan and junior Austin Apodaca haven’t raced away with the job. UNM isn’t breaking big scoring plays through their run game and combined with a defense that still is progressing, they have no room for error. Thus UNM can be in games and it slips away from them with one bad series. However anything is possible. Lobo fans are ready to see an impact performance on the field. UNM will be the underdog in all four games but have a shot to impress the fans in November.
