March is not just for college basketball madness. High school boys and girls basketball teams are taking part in state championship action all around the country. This week I did play-by-play on my first New Mexico high school tournament games. Class 1A and 2A action was the basketball being viewed. Schools from Dora, Tatum and Springer, New Mexico to just name a few. Not only was the basketball on the floor good, the passion from the fans that traveled with their school was great. A whole town closing down for a high school basketball game comes to life with these cities following their kids through the tourney. Bernalillo High School was the host site for the 1A and 2A action. From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. fans flowed in and out of the gym creating a unique atmosphere. If you haven’t tried it go out and see some high school basketball action… The play, the passion and the fans… It’s well worth it.
