Jeff Siembieda a veteran of the New Mexico sports scene, has been a trusted and respected voice in New Mexico since 1996. He currently co-hosts The Opening Drive with JJ Buck, where he was honored as the New Mexico Sportscaster of the Year for 2015 and 2016 by the National Sports Media Association, and the show was recognized as the best sports talk show in 2010, 2011, 2016 and 2020 by the New Mexico Broadcasters’ Association. Before joining KNML, Jeff served as the Deputy Director of the New Mexico Sports Authority, a position to which he was appointed by Governor Bill Richardson in May of 2005. He came to New Mexico in August of 1996 as the weekend sports anchor/reporter at KOAT-TV. Jeff was promoted to sports director in May of 1997, a position he held until 2001. He can also be heard calling play-by-play of various sports events around the state on radio and television. Jeff is also the executive director of The New Mexico Bowl, and has been since the event’s inception in 2006.
J.J. Buck turned his love of sports into what is now a 17-year radio career ranging from the music side to sports talk. J.J. co-hosts ‘The Opening Drive’ a three-hour morning show which has won multiple New Mexico Broadcaster Association awards for best sports talk show. His passion for sports and the people that make them happen blasts through the speakers each day. J.J. understands the impact and personal connection that radio has with its listeners. As a native New Mexican and a graduate of the University of New Mexico J.J. understands not just the local sports scene, but what makes the fans and people of Albuquerque tick.
The Sports Animal microphone isn’t the only one that J.J. sits behind. He is the voice of the New Mexico Lobos women’s basketball team completing one of his professional goals as a play-by-play announcer. J.J.’s work with the Lobos extends to the football radio broadcasts as well as calling women’s soccer and softball for Lobo TV.
