Lobo Basketball
Is it weird that a head coach would find more enjoyment in coaching a team that is new and learning how to win verses a team that is established? New Mexico head coach Craig Neal is in that exact situation this season. Last year he had a team with two current NBA players (Alex Kirk, Cameron Bairstow) and an All-Conference player Kendall Williams who is playing professionally overseas. Neal has said many times how he looks forward to coaching his players up in practice and just getting better every day. Of course winning is what feels best in sports. This new group of Lobos has clawed out victories this season against a non-conference schedule that has played into their hands. It hasn't been an exciting schedule so far but one that an injuryiddled team has used to its advantage. Cullen Neal's season is in doubt with an ankle injury. Sam Logwood is out ‘til after Christmas with a shoulder sprain and Arthur Edwards hopes to return next week from a broken finger. Neal and his coaching staff will have their patience tested finishing the non-conference schedule with a limited rotation. We'll find out just how fun coaching and teaching is but Neal is all in. Turnover in college athletics is expected as fans watch a new identity formed with a new group of Lobos.
