Greetings to all!!
As I was driving into the station earlier this week a thought hit me that I thought was pretty interesting given all of the ridiculous, nasty, unfortunate and horrible news we receive on a daily basis regarding our sports heroes. I may have found a silver lining amidst all of the chaos going on in the NFL. After word came out over the past 48 hours regarding Adrian Peterson and potential allocation of charity funds to areas of personal, sexual and substance indulgence when it should've been in the form of a check cut to various outlets, I can't help but feel his legal issues and public relations issues right now are a runaway train going the wrong way. These issues on top of the child abuse issues he's dealing might very well, I believe, force him and his services out of the NFL permanently. How could this happen, you ask? In a day and age where bottom line means everything and production on the field means everything, I think we're starting to see a shift in the thinking of fans to wanting to their "pound of flesh" from those who don't walk on a straight path and get involved in nefarious activities. Even if it's simply a byproduct of fans now having it thrown in their face 24/7, they want a conclusion to these stories rather than them being shoved under the rug. Why is this good specifically with the Peterson situation? Well, I believe that given the NFL being a sport that is so immensely popular and the least dependent of the major sports on specific stars, they could easily absorb the hit they would take from losing Peterson permanently. You name it, Manning, Brady, Brees… The league wouldn't miss a beat without them. The NFL could and should lead by example if Peterson is found guilty and send him packing his bags for life from a league that is a PRIVILEGE, not a right, to play in. That and only that would finally send the message that talent does NOT trump all!!! Have a great week!!!
