Soccer

Ding dong Soccer's almost gone….

As the United States "No Nickname" soccer team got bounced by Belgium 2-1 in the World Cup Soccer Tournament, I had to take a moment and ask myself, am I disappointed?  Am I angry?  Am I happy?  Ultimately, none of the above.

I am not lover of soccer as a whole, though I did grow up watching it with my dad, who loves it.  I don't feel soccer is taking over US sports, even though one local journalist opined that "soccer is a threat to close minded sports fans," that is a ridiculous take. I'm just a guy who would rather watch other sports for the love of the game – I don't want to have to defend why I choose some sports over others.  The unfortunate truth is that professional sports, as well as the Olympics and other world tournaments, are mired in politics, polarizing slants and fanaticism that doesn’t allow clarity and objectivity: its one or the other.

Just give me a no-no in baseball; give me a football season in which a team can go from zero to hero in 9 weeks; give me a basketball season where MVP's battle up and down the court trying  to reign supreme in hoop superiority.

At the end of the day, fun and politics usually don't make good bed fellows – just give me a beer and the pure love of competition to help me forget about war and taxes for a few moments…

That being said, GO DODGERS!
