David Jubb’s Newsletter 5/15

Greetings everyone!

I hope everyone has had a great week and that you're not yet quite done with talk of Michael Sam because I'm about to talk about the "Kiss heard round the world" one more time. Hey, it could be Donald Sterling, right? First off let me say that if you listen to the show I think you know that I have no issue whatsoever with Michael Sam being gay. I do, however, have an issue (as you also know if you listen) with the inability we have to speak freely on both sides of the aisle in this country, even if it's in a respectful manner. People simply won't go against anything very often for fear of being singled out, ridiculed for their opinion, called a bigot, racist, homophobic, etc. The reason I bring this up is because everyone in every walk of life has to exercise discretion often. There are things sometimes that we should be able to do but we know we probably shouldn't for a variety of reasons. Does that make it correct? No, it doesn't, but it's reality. Michael Sam and his partner clearly had no interest in acting with discretion after he was taken in the 7th round last Saturday when they kissed and fed each other cake. He absolutely was aware of the talk that would rage afterwards and if he wanted it to be about football then he made a bad decision. If he's simply interested in lessening the shock value of what we saw for some folks out there who are shocked by it then I guess he succeeded continuing on the conversation for another week.

As a side note…make sure you're tuned into the Bar for the rest of the week. Don't want to miss it!

Take care,
