So, an NFL quarterback got sucker-punched by a back-up linebacker….in the locker room, and is out for six to ten weeks. You hear about scuffles at NFL training camps all the time, but never something like this. The back-up linebacker, IK Enemkpali, was immediately released by the New York Jets after he slugged the team’s quarterback, Geno Smith, allegedly over a $600 dollar debt. Millionaires in dispute over 600-bucks. Yep. The linebacker is at fault; you can’t slug guys in the face…..anywhere, let alone in the workplace. But Geno Smith is also not without a bit of culpability. If you owe the man $600 and he’s asked you about it a few times….and you make millions, pay the man. Now, the guy who is supposed to be the leader of the football team is out for a few months. And the silence of teammates not rushing to Geno’s defense speaks volumes. I don’t know if this is going to be a blessing in disguise for the Jets, with Ryan Fitzpatrick now their starting quarterback, but it is certainly a punch in the gut, er, jaw, for their growth as a team. Brutal!
