Jeff’s Journal

That was really cool.  Watching the USA women’s soccer team win the World Cup with a 5-2 rout over Japan on Sunday was cool.  A group of likeable, hard-working, and seemingly up-standing women, who are both role models and tremendous athletes, excelling to the point where they are the best in the world was great.  And I think it will be inspiring to a lot of young girls in this country.  I don’t want to entertain the discussion anymore about what this will mean for soccer in our country.  That is an old and tired topic.  The fact is, soccer is relevant and legit not only around the world, but in the United States.  To me, the bigger picture, especially as the father of a 9-year old girl, is the impact this has on our girls like her.  She saw that women can play at the highest level and under the brightest lights.  She saw that hard work and seemingly doing things the right way does in fact pay off. She saw that sports isn’t all about PED’s, athletes hitting women and cheating.  That there is really good competition out there and that she can do things, not only athletically, and be great.  Here’s to you, Ladies of the U.S national team.  You made us all proud.  Enjoy your moment.  You deserve it.
