The United States women’s national team is World Cup Final bound. It hasn’t been smoothing sailing for the second ranked team in the world but what matters now is they are playing at a high level one win away from another star. Early in the tournament the team struggled to create offensive chances. While that led to their defense becoming a difference making it didn’t bode well for their chances to win the whole tournament. Over the last two games the U.S. made changes, one of which was putting Abby Wambach on the bench. The 35 year-old is one of the most accomplished international players for the USWNT. The team just wasn’t clicking on offense trying to feed her the ball up top. Things changed against China as the U.S. went to a 4-3-3 attack which opened things up thanks to better possession and passing. Wambach is still an important piece to her teammates from a leadership standpoint but now is a super sub for the U.S. Coming off their best two performances against China then Germany U.S. soccer fans are bursting with confidence ahead of Sunday’s final. It will either be a re-match against Japan who defeated the U.S. in the last World Cup Final or England’s first final appearance. The day after USA’s Independence Day dominated by soccer? You better believe it.
