Month of Champions
We are only through the halfway point of the month of June and we have been treated to two great championships, and have witnessed history before our eyes. It is time that I give the props where props are due. Let’s start with the NHL Stanley Cup Finals which finished Monday, as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in game 6. This was an awesome series, as we saw the more experienced team do it again, winning their 3rd Cup in 6 years, can you say dynasty? Chicago also won their first cup on their own home ice since 1938, incredible, and I must also mention Duncan Keith as this year’s Conn Smyth recipient. Next the NBA Finals a grind out of a series that was highly entertaining as the Golden State Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in game 6 Tuesday 105-97. The series matched a young team full of shooters and lots of depth as well as the league’s MVP in Steph Curry versus the best player in the world Lebron James and a hobbled squad with seemingly a bench playing for a bench, lots of heart and grit by the CAVS but simply just not enough offense to keep up in a shoot-out with the Warriors, again an amazing series as many including myself thought it was over when Cleveland’s number 2 and 3 players went out with injuries earlier on. The final twist in this story was who received the Finals MVP, Andre Iguodala who came off the bench and made a huge difference, whew, again I must reiterate this was an interesting series. Last but not least, this came on Saturday June 6th, The Belmont Stakes and American Pharoh becoming the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years when affirmed was the last horse to this. Wow that fun witnessing that, and enjoying a part of sports history, let’s see how long it will take to do it again. Well now that June is almost done, time to focus on Americas past time and the upcoming NFL season, it just gets better and better as we go. Stand by and let’s see what these two sports have to offer, I’m sure it will be with its great twists and story lines as always.
