Bubbles are not floating around the Mountain West. In a wide open year of college basketball, in which it feels like almost everyone has a chance to make it into the NCAA tournament, the Mountain West is looking like a one-bid league. The conference season has been competitive, upsets and favorites alike. However a subpar non-conference showing has meant teams beating up on each other hasn’t been a positive for the Mountain West. Even with a little less meaning to the regular season, seeding is still important for the conference tournament in Las Vegas. What could have been had the Lobos not been whistled on a late inbounds play at San Diego State. Now their focus is on finishing strong trying to take at least a second place seed into Vegas. The Lobos have a rematch with the Aztecs, road trip through Colorado (Colorado State and Air Force), a trip to Reno and Fresno State at home after this week’s game verse Boise State at The Pit. New Mexico has shown flashes of a team that can win in Las Vegas. They have two player of the year candidates in Elijah Brown and Tim Williams, who give them a chance against any team in the conference. While the conference has seen better days Vegas is still going to be must watch television. SDSU finds ways to win and defends. Still they don’t quite have the edge of past Aztec squads. UNLV always seems to be favored but they struggle in the tournament and injuries to their frontcourt has really hurt them. Roll the dice and place your bets (In Las Vegas of course) and get ready for a wild three days. Until then seeding and getting ‘hot’ are what teams are focusing on the final few weeks of the regular season.
