The Pit (er….Wise Pies Arena0 was back on Tuesday night and it was great to see. A big win, against a good program in front of a good Pit crowd made for a really nice night. Lobo coach Craig Neal told his players after the victory over UNLV, “Enjoy this. This is why you came here.” He’s right. I’ve been a little puzzled as to why Lobo fan has been so hesitant to buy into their team this year. I understand the slow start and disappointing losses in the non-conference schedule, I really do. But I’m looking at a young team that is growing up, getting better and getting tougher. AND….they’re becoming fun to watch. I am fully aware that Lobo fan doesn’t want to hear about youth and patience. The reality is, this team starts four sophomores and a junior. Their top three scorers did not play competitive basketball last year. Now, it seems like they are figuring it out and are maturing. Saturday at San Diego State will be a big test, but it will not be the final exam. Enjoy this team. They’re becoming fun, and night’s like Tuesday will hopefully become the norm again in the Pit.
