This is my first opportunity since December 19th to be able, in this forum, to say “thank you”. Thank you for making the 10th annual Gildan New Mexico Bowl a success. What a great day that was for New Mexico. A beautiful day, big crowd and great game making for a day to remember for a long time. I hope, for those who came out to the game only because the Lobos were in it, that you had a great time and realized that the Bowl Game is something special for our State and will make it an annual tradition. The game looked great on TV, got an incredibly positive response from everyone associated with college football and was able to showcase our community. In addition, it was a strong finish to a good season for the Lobos. I know UNM didn’t win the game, but I hope Lobo fans are able to look back at this season, see the strides that the program made, enjoy the success and the fact that they had the ball in the final minute, driving with a chance to beat a Pac-12 team in Arizona that was in the Fiesta Bowl a year ago. This is what football can do for a community. It was exciting…the town was buzzing, people were engaged and happy. Remember this next year. This is what football does for communities around the country and it was great to feel it here. Now let’s make it an annual tradition.
