I scribe this entry with absolutely no misconception of impartiality. I am biased. As the executive director of the Gildan New Mexico Bowl, I have a slanted view on this subject….but my view is the right one and has become increasingly more popular over the last few years. The 10th annual installment of our State’s annual college football bowl game is next Saturday, December 19th at University Stadium. Tenth Annual! New Mexico’s premier annual sports event hits this milestone with momentum. I hold nothing against the people who didn’t believe we would be here ten years later, let alone five years later. I understand the skepticism. I’ve been around here long enough to see plenty of events come and go. But now, ten years in….after great games, future NFL players, tremendous memories and millions and millions of dollars pumped into the local economy, the Gildan New Mexico Bowl is part of what we do around here during the holiday season. And this year, with the New Mexico Lobos back in the post season for the first time since 2007, taking on the Arizona Wildcats from the Pac-12, we should have a heck of a celebration. I encourage you to be a part of this event. It is not just about a football game. It is a celebration of New Mexico, Albuquerque and college football. It is a showcase of our community on a national stage. It is a quality of life event in our community, and I know you will have a good time. See out there on December 19th.
