The four team college football playoff has changed things at the top. The bowl system is still rolling along. The 10th annual Gildan New Mexico Bowl is December 19th. We won’t know until Sunday but one can assume the New Mexico Lobos will be one of the teams in the game. Some people cannot stand a 6-6 and in a couple cases 5-7 team getting a reward for their season. Take a bowl game for what it is, a celebration of your team and hopefully one final good game to push your team towards next year. For the Lobos they capped off one of their wildest regular season’s ever with a win over Air Force last weekend. A team that struggled to win one game just a few years ago won seven beating the powers of the Mountain West (Boise State and Utah State) along with the Falcons. Bowl week is about the fans and athletes. The gifts, the events and at the end they play a game. It’s far too easy to focus on the negatives. If you team is 6-6 or 9-3 a bowl game means whatever you want it to mean. You can embrace the attention, cheer on your team and feel good about next season or throw it all away and have nothing to look forward to. The choice is yours. I choose to enjoy the bowl games for what they are. A showcase of fan bases, match ups you usually won’t see and a bitter sweet reminder that another college football season has already come and gone.
