It happened, one of the best weekends in New Mexico sports history. Saturday night will be talked about forever. A champion and a rare win on The Blue. The world was consumed with Ronda Rousey and rightfully so. She dominated in the octagon, had a good personality out of it and wanted to finish her career as an undefeated champion. However Albuquerque’s Holly Holm to the surprise of many ended that all. Holm dominated from the opening bell, picking Rousey apart with her striking. She showed athletically that she’s on the same level as Rousey and even was able to get out of a couple dangerous situations where Rousey was setting up for her signature arm-bar. No one was surprised with how prepared Holm was thanks to her team and Jackson-Winklejohn MMA. To win the title you have to finish the champ and that’s exactly what Holm did. Minutes after that fight ended the majority of folks flipped over to see if Lobo football was surviving at Boise State. Not only were they surviving they had the Broncos scared. The Lobos intercepted Broncos quarterback Brett Rypien three times, had a lead and were ready to shock the world. Despite punting on their final four possessions the Lobo defense held on, by all of four yards, to hand BSU their fifth home loss at home since 2000. It was an amazing night and it’s been so much fun talking about it with you this week. No excuses, no whining, just fans in New Mexico enjoying wins. This is why he invest in sports, for the good moments even when the bad ones sting and it feels like there’s no hope for your team. There always is.
