Buck Stops Here

New Mexico finished the regular season 15-15 overall, 7-11 in Mountain West play. Craig Neal’s squad is deeper and more talented this season. However it won’t click right from the start for the men. It’s been well over a year for two key players, transfers Elijah Brown and Tim Williams, since they played a competitive game against an opponent. Cullen Neal missed the majority of the season with an ankle injury and a few true freshman will soak up some minuets.  That’s why Craig Neal said this week he plans to throw everything he can at his team over their two exhibition games beginning with CSU-Pueblo November 3rd. Neal said in the past they’ve held certain aspects of their offense and defense out of these games because they were worried about putting that on tape for future opponents to scout. As UNM looks to develop a new dependable core, on floor chemistry is key and that begins with running the sets they plan on utilizing this season. The Lobos also will begin to find out what their roles will be early in the year. Neal hasn’t released his starting line-up but he said he already has an idea of who it’s going to be. Now it’s on the players to execute on offense and defense, embrace their roles and grow as Lobo basketball fans expectations are all about what happens in March.
