2 to Go!
Saturday night we saw an awesome comeback by the Lobos as Austin Apodaca drove New Mexico 80 yards in just 1:19 on his only drive of the game, hitting Dameon Gamblin for a 28-yard touchdown with 55 seconds left, and Zack Rogers hit the extra point as the Lobos came back from the grave for a thrilling 28-27 victory over Hawai’i. The win improved UNM to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the Mountain Division, good for a tie for second place. Now it’s time for the Lobos to hit the road again and head over to San Jose State and seek another victory, 2 is the so called “magic number” for this team to make a Bowl run this year. At the beginning of this season head coach Bob Davie felt this team could do it, and many like myself felt the same way. The question is, with the season advancing as quickly as it, and tougher way tougher conference opponents looming can the Lobos do it? Get the 2 desired wins, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say yes. Drawing from the old coach speak one game at a time. They will have to beat San Jose State, that is a given, I believe if they fail in that, they will not get to a bowl. So let’s just say they do, and with the schedule they have upcoming against formidable teams in conference the likes of Utah St., Boise St., Colorado St., and Air Force, I think they can snatch a victory by one of these teams, if a.) UNM is overlooked by in one of these games which as we know does happen, and b.) simple execution of what this team does, there is no room for error now, they must focus, and play collectively as a unit, they certainly have the talent to do so…so let’s wait and see the outcome of San Jose St., as it’s time for all the aces to be put on the table UNM.
