Something really, really cool happened last Saturday in Albuquerque. There was an actual, legitimate college football atmosphere at University Stadium, AND a good, entertaining football game broke out. Hours before the 6:00 kickoff between the Lobos and Aggies, the tailgate lots were full. People out having fun, hanging with friends and creating a tremendous atmosphere. I haven’t seen it like that in 6 or 7 years and it was so cool. No fights, no problems (except for the long lines at the portable toilets)…just a good time. You see, this can be a football town. I read this week in the newspaper that it is time to put the football talk in the back of the closet with the shorts and t-shirts. WRONG! Tell me why this can’t be a basketball and football town. It can. The Lobos are 3-2. I don’t care who they have beaten; they are 3-2 and getting better. And they are entertaining. It’s time for us around here to catch on to what the rest of the country realized a long time ago. There is a reason why college football is by far, the number two most popular sport in our country. It is fun. It is social. It can be exciting. I had a great time last Saturday. I know everyone I was with did too. I hope you were there…and you get to do it again soon
