Rivalry of Enchantment week here in New Mexico. In most places, the intrastate rivalry is a week-long event. Good trash talk, real rivalry hatred and passion. At some point, I hope that all rings true when the Aggies and Lobos get together but I don’t sense any of that this week. In basketball, yes; not so much for football. And it’s understandable. The Lobos are riding eight straight losing seasons and the Aggies haven’t been to a bowl game since the 1960 Sun Bowl (that is not a typo!). But I do honestly think both programs are getting better and we could have a very entertaining game on Saturday at University Stadium. The 2-2 Lobos are coming off a road win, where they looked good, albeit against a bad Wyoming team. The 0-3 Aggies are coming off of two heartbreaking losses where they had had a chance to win both games at the end. Both teams are getting better…they “eye test” will tell you that. Whoever wins on Saturday will set a new tone for their season while the team that loses will be licking their wounds and trying to piece together hopes for the next two months. Either way, this is OUR rivalry. It’s what New Mexico has. Get out there and enjoy it. It should be a really fun day!
