Football is Back, Yes!

This past Sunday night was the Hall of Fame Game which featured the Pittsburgh Steelers versus the Minnesota Vikings, which wrapped up Hall of Fame Weekend, in which greats like Tim Brown, Junior Seau, Will Shields and others in this class were inducted in. This weekend is always important because it marks the first time we get to see two of the NFL’s 32 franchises get after it in full gear.

Not always the best football, most of the starters and stars don’t play, we watch guys still trying to make the squad, some who we will never see again, but it is still a game. When this time of year approaches I identify it with such things as the smell of green chili roasting at the markets, the baseball season races heating up, and not only professional football getting going, but high school football and Lobo Football as well, which by the way promises to be a very interesting season for Bob Davie and the boys. Football is king on all levels, despite the craziness and sometimes surreal things we hear off the field (deflate gate, and most recently such zaniness as a NY Jets quarterback Geno Smith getting sucker punched by a teammate and being put out for 6 to 10 weeks) sheesh! With all that and more in mind, who isn’t stoked for the games, getting your fantasy football team ready, tailgating, or just coming home on Thursday or Monday night having a beer and a pizza and catching the games, damn I’m excited just thinking about it. Lastly and sadly, as much as all this is important to the game we love, we lost someone this past weekend in legendary broadcaster/player  Frank Gifford who was extremely  important to the game and will be fondly remembered and dearly missed, men like Gifford changed the face of the game leading it into a new and exciting era, not to mention his years of broadcasting with the likes of Howard Cosell, Al Michaels, and “Dandy” Don Meredith were also innovative for the sport and extremely fun to watch and listen to.
