LA times 2
The city of Los Angeles has not had an NFL franchise since 1995, when the Los Angeles Raiders and the Rams both departed for their current respective cities, the Raiders back to their city of origination Oakland Ca., and the Rams heading over to St. Louis Missouri. LA is the largest US market not to currently have an NFL franchise, 20 years without the limelight of Monday Night Football, playoffs or a Championship run, now suddenly talk of getting a franchise there is heating up, check that; the possibility of two teams could be placed in LA by the 2016 season. There are two scenarios that can be played out, one The Raiders and the San Diego Chargers going in on a combined effort to move into a stadium together in Carson, California, or the Rams who are owned by Stan Kroenke moving to Inglewood CA., where Kroenke has some land and wishes to build a stadium there and take the Rams out of St. Louis back to LA. Los Angeles has been regarded as a bargaining chip for years, occasionally in order to get other cities to build new stadiums. Now, suddenly a league that wasn’t in a hurry to put a franchise in the second biggest market in the US is in a weird hurry to accommodate either of these groups. It was largely believed that the city doesn’t care about football, because there are so many other things to do in Los Angeles, the beach, Hollywood etc., I’ve always called bs on that. The question again then, why the rush at the peril of St. Louis, Oakland, and San Diego? Well why not? The chance to get new state of the art digs in a mega metropolitan with the bright lights of Hollywood looming is extremely seductive. I’m not sure how I feel about this; one part of me wants to see LA get it’s team (or teams), and the other part of me sees how this can be seen as dirty pool and serious big business being big business as usual. Either way, if anyone can tell you what the NFL really stands for, it would be the city of Los Angeles as they know all to well that NFL stands for Not For Long.
