The back nine at the US Open Golf Championship this past Sunday was some of the most exciting, riveting sports television I’ve watched in a long time. Yes….. golf. The swings in momentum, the big shots, the missed shots, the story lines; all of it was fascinating. Jordan Spieth, at 21 years old became the youngest player ever to have already won both the US Open and the Masters. He did it with a huge putt on 16, seeming throwing it all away with a double-bogey on 17, then a tap in birdie on 18. Then he had to sit and watch Dustin Johnson miss an eagle putt on 18 which would have won the tournament, and then miss the birdie which would have given us an 18 hole playoff on Monday. Jason Day battling Vertigo, Louis Oostheuizen coming out of nowhere to have a share of the lead…all of it was awesome. As a golfer and a golf fan, it is great to see that there are dynamic young stars in place to make the game interesting going forward…even without Tiger and Phil in contention. It was awesome.
