Rules who needs them?
As a teenager I loved Punk rock, and one of my favorite bands was the Sex Pistols, the infamous English outfit who had a song called “Anarchy in the UK”. Being young and impressionable I was enamored by the thought of anarchy and how cool it would be to have no rules or laws in place. While of course that is a political ideal, and I certainly do not subscribe to that system (or lack thereof), the bottom line is this if there are no rules, there is no structure, and if there is no structure there is no game. Name me a sport in the world that doesn’t have at least have one rule, how would you play it? Even dodge ball had a rule, don’t hit a kid in the face. In the case of the National Football League and the “deflate gate” situation with quarterback Tom Brady, and the New England Patriots, wouldn’t it have made life easier not to mess with even a boring mundane little thing like the psi parameters of the inflation of a football. I’m not saying that every rule is good or great but it’s there for a reason, just think about this for a minute, if there were no out of bounds on a football field or a basketball court, or if all balls or pucks or whatever could be changed or modified to the liking’s of an individual rather than the full compliment of competitors, why call it organized sports? Yea you play to win the game, and sometimes you may cheat in the process and hope not to get caught, but if you do, then take your lumps as well as being able to dish them out, and don’t cry about it…there nuff said. I still love “Anarchy in the UK”, but don’t come flipping cars and burning couches down my street dammit.
