I’m not sure what’s going to happen this week in Las Vegas, NV for the Lobo men’s basketball team. Heck, I’m writing this on Wednesday morning and by the time you’re reading this, they could already be home (I sure hope not). No argument, this season has been a bummer, with all the recent success and expectations on this program. But there was no denying the magic and emotion that was in the Pit last Saturday for Senior Night. Honoring Hugh Greenwood and DeShawn Delaney, Lobo fans sold out the building to see a team 14-15 team, who was riding an eight-game losing streak. There are very few places in America, if any other places, that could have said that. They came out to say “thank you” to Delaney and Greenwood, the latter who will go down as one of the more popular players in the history of a program that loves its own. Delaney was hurt, took the opening tip, called timeout and walked off the Pit floor for the final time with tears in his eyes. By the time the night was over, and the Lobos beat Wyoming in overtime, almost everyone in the building had shed tear. For one night at least… the Pit was magical.
