College Football National Championship Game
We will get something on Monday that many people have been waiting years for. A true, college football national championship game. Oregon and Ohio State play in Dallas in a game that will draw huge television ratings and rake in huge dollars. The semi-final games (Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl) were both very entertaining games on New Year's Day and proved to be very popular. Already, you're hearing the calls to expand the playoff from four teams to eight, or even more. To that I say, "slow down". Let this play out for a few years. I am true believer that you always want to leave them wanting more as opposed too big and too quickly. The excitement that this playoff created has been tremendous, while at the same time keeping the bowl system and bowl games relevant, interesting and exciting. Right now, I think we have a great formula. A one-year sample certainly isn't big enough to say it is working or it is not working. Let this thing play out and see all the good that comes from it. In five years, let's sit back and evaluate what then will be trending. If it can be tweaked to make it better, then I'm all for it. Right now, I don't think it is broken… hence, don't fix it. We've got a really good thing going.
