Sports Calendar

While the summer heat succumbs the fall cool and the tank tops turn into jackets, the sports calendar doesn't get much better. Football is well underway. The Fall Classic is upon us (Playoff baseball; it's great). The puck drops this week on the NHL season and basketball practice is underway for college and NBA teams. It's Christmas for sports fans. So many games, stories and performances. Get your popcorn and remote control ready. We'll cover it all, yes even hockey, on The Opening Drive, Monday through Friday, 7-to-10 a.m. Don't forget to get off the couch for a few hours Friday night as New Mexico hosts San Diego State and former Lobo head coach Rocky Long at University Stadium. The Lobos are 2-3 overall coming off a win at UTSA. Bob Davie and company have a chance to do something no one thought, get to .500 and actually have excitement moving forward. The Aztecs could start a true freshman at quarterback. Their style is ground-and-pound, not up tempo and spread. That bodes well for a Lobos defense that has shown it can compete when they get a chance to set up. Here we go. Enjoy this sports overdose. It's what we all live for.
