Favorite Rivalry ?

Here are some of the greatest rivalries of all time: The Green Bay Packers v the Chicago Bears, The Boston Celtics v the Los Angeles Lakers, The Boston Red Sox v the New York Yankees, The United Federation of Planets v the Klingons and the UNM Lobos v the New Mexico State Aggies? Haha… Yes the Rio Grande Rivalry is slated to mark its 105th meeting between the two New Mexico powerhouses at Aggie Memorial Stadium at 6:07 in Las Cruces Saturday night. Many people have scoffed at this rivalry, sighting the dismal records both programs have produced over the last few years. I do not feel in necessary to list the problems they have; we are all aware of their struggles. This 105th meeting has no elements of rivalry or bragging rights.  These games are more about survival. Neither program will go away for good upon losing to the other, but in a state with so many downers, a poor economy, an education structure that struggles etc., it would be nice to see one of our top two state educational institutions pull out more than 5 wins in a year. If one of those wins comes at the cost beating the other so be it! We'll chalk it up to unity, sighting that at least New Mexico helps its own to help push one over the fence of victory. Hahaha… I guess I don't see a rivalry per se (bragging rights over who can actually win more than 5 games isn't exactly gonna get ESPNs Lee Corso to come down and wear one of the team’s mascot’s head on the show) but it may bring him here to wear, we'll let’s see, a bag!
