The Rio Grande Rivalry

The Rio Grande Rivalry continues on the football field as New Mexico visits New Mexico State. The past few years haven't been enchanting for either program. However, the direction of both programs is encouraging as Doug Martin is in his second year leading the Aggies and Bob Davie in his third with the Lobos. After an early bye week it's a chance for UNM to hit the restart button and for the Aggies it's their opportunity to show that their 2-0 start was not a fluke and they are ready to battle back from last year’s 66-17 drubbing in Albuquerque and last week’s 42-24 loss at UTEP. One thing I hope to see Saturday is a competitive football game. While fans of either team won't mind their team winning in a blowout, the rivalry can mean so much more if both programs can play solid football overall and competitive games against each other. It's the only division one rivalry in the state, a rare game that both teams think they can win. Get the popcorn ready. Lobos verses Aggies is here.
