Football Soothsayer:
Last Friday the Sports Bar had its final broadcast at the Lab marking the end of the 2014 season for the Albuquerque Isotopes. We shook Josh Suchon’s (play-by-play guy for the Topes) hand and told him we would speak to him by phone in the offseason. A little sad like when school ends, but with baseball getting farther and farther in the rearview mirror it's time to go to work with football. We have had one week of college football now in the books, and we now approach the start of the 2014-15 National Football League Season with this Thursday night’s matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks.
Now it is time for me to summon up my psychic powers; no, I'm not that creep who can start fires or manipulate people or objects. It's just what I see for the future in two areas of football. While the UNM Lobos lost a tough one in the home opener against the UTEP Miners 31-24, and QB Cole Gautche went out with a hamstring injury, no need to fear. It is just one game. All is not lost. Backup Clayton Mitchum will start Saturday when the nationallyanked Arizona State Sun Devils come into town, but there is also a shiny new gun in the rack to fire: A redshirt freshman quarterback named Lamar Jordon. A young man with whom Bob Davey has a lot of hope and belief in his skill and talent. I believe he will act as a spark plug for this team and will begin the new era Lobo fans have been anxiously awaiting. Beware, Mountain West, but be patient, Lobo fan. There will be no bowl game this year, but a definite improvement and a respectable season ending record of 5-7. Lastly, to the pros, a simple look into the future of the game’s biggest night, Super Bowl 49. My prediction will match up the Indianapolis Colts versus the San Francisco 49ers, with SF taking it all this year! We shall see! Soothsaying by Mike in Albuquerque!
