New Mexico men's basketball

Six former University of New Mexico men's basketball players are in Las Vegas as they try to earn a roster spot taking part in Summer League play. Former first round pick and second year Chicago Bulls guard Tony Snell highlights the group averaging 20 points per-game through three games. Also on the Bulls roster, Cameron Bairstow and Kendall Williams. Bairstow was Chicago's second round pick this season while Williams was a summer invite. Fellow Lobo rookie Alex Kirk is playing with Cleveland while Darington Hobosn (Toronto) and Drew Gordon (Philadelphia), Summer League veterans, also fight for the attention of basketball front offices. All six will be playing professional basketball next year. The question is where? Bairstow appears headed for a contact with the Bulls. Hobson and Gordon have carved out careers overseas. Williams and Kirk are wearing an NBA team on their chest. The dream of an NBA contract has yet to be realized. There are many different paths to ones final destination. This is just the beginning but a bright one for the young Lobos and a positive one for the veterans who received another invite. New Mexico is still chasing their Sweet 16 banner but their mark is growing in basketball. NBA scouts and coaches know UNM. It's a program where you can come grown, play in-front of a great crowd and get to the next level. The March faults will never go away, but file them away in the memory and recharge for another season around the corner.
