Soccer Fans

Greetings to all!

I hope everyone has had an excellent week! What a ride the World Cup was for fans of soccer as well as those newly minted fans that were possibly just introduced to the sport. In this post-mortem analysis of the United States' performances and it's ramifications on this country going forward, I'm having a bit of difficulty with the question of whether or not this World Cup simply seemed "larger than life" because of the social media culture it's been knee deep in for weeks now so therefore it's more at the forefront of the mind of the average American or is the game actually gaining more of a following and the momentum is building and has been building for soccer to become more than a punch line and a sport like the Olympics that we follow every four years with fervor, but that's it. I think it's honestly a bit of both. I think soccer needs to use the model of the University of Oregon however and be edgy, be different. Embrace it as somewhat of a counterculture movement that has both the people and the substance in place to make it a popular game not just to play when you're 8 years old and are promised an all-important juice box at the end of your match….but a game that is gazed upon by adults and kids alike by choice…not because your patriotism is going to be questioned if you don't!

Have a great week, everyone!
