World Cup

Believe the hype. The World Cup is taking the United States by storm thanks to the play of the U.S. national team. Advancing to the Round of 16 was a done deal. The U.S. had a 2-1 lead over Portugal in the 95th minute of the game, it was over. In a split second Cristiano Ronaldo found Nani on a beautiful cross. Nani headed it past goal keeper Tim Howard, 2-2 tie, now the game was over. The outcome kept the U.S. in position to move on but it felt like a loss to everyone behind the red, white and blue. America doesn't do ties. Now the U.S. faces their managers’ country, Germany. A win or draw moves USMNT on to the next round. Jurgen Klinsmann said before the World Cup that the U.S. had no chance of winning. That's not a way to win over soccer fans on the fence. What he's saying leading up to the Germany match is what people want to hear, the U.S. will not make a deal for a tie, they are playing to win. As fans put the final pieces of their shattered hearts back together just in time for the morning kick-off on Thursday, there is still room on the bandwagon. A month from now soccer won't be the number one story in America. That's fine, every four years more and more people are believing the hype. Why fight it? Throw on your Captain America t-shirt and cheer with everything you have as the underdog United States takes on power house Germany.
