Soccer in the US
Are you enjoying the World Cup? I think most of the world is enjoying what has, thus far, been an entertaining, intriguing competition. Every four years it amazes me how this country reacts to this event; the biggest stage for the globe's most popular game. I think as long as the United States is still alive in the tournament, American interest will be alive. Once "we" are out, we will go back to talking about football training camps and LeBron James. And you know what? That's fine. I said this on the "Opening Drive" last week: There are three factions of soccer fans in this country this month. There are the soccer hard cores, who are somewhat snobbish about their game and will watch no matter what. There are soccer haters, who will bemoan and complain about the game, the coverage and the fans. And then there is the majority of us; we will watch. Some like it some don't. And all of it is OK. Stop telling me what I should and should not like! Stop telling me that I'm an idiot if I like soccer…or if I don't like soccer. That's why there is a remote control…so I can watch golf, or Oprah, or soccer, or sitcom reruns. Enjoy it for what it is. Let those who like it enjoy it. Let those who don't like it watch something else. And we can do this all again in four years from now.
