This week with Michael Sam
We saw a backtrack this week as Michael Sam decided to suspend his reality show on Oprah Winfrey's OWN network. I look at this a win for the public regardless about how you feel about homosexuality. Michael Sam of course is the first openly gay football player to be drafted by the NFL most of America was very supportive of his decision to come out, but when ESPN cameras showed Sam engaged in a make out session with his boyfriend then the two loving fed each other cake to spike the football on the occasion, this raised more than a few eyebrows. Then to top it off Sam announced a new reality show produced by Oprah on OWN, then and only then is where the backlash started. Gay rights and issues have come a long way in the last decade and even faster in the last year, but tolerance and acceptance is one thing, but to force America to celebrate the lifestyle, watch men kiss on the NFL draft coverage and be subjected to a reality show about a marginal player who was barely drafted with one of the last picks in the last round is too much. And we saw the back up, Sam suspended his reality series, because America, the NFL and maybe even Oprah and Sam realized the only thing interesting about Michael Sam is the fact he is gay. We don't even know if he will make the Rams NFL roster or ever play a down of pro football until he accomplishes something more America is not going to interested. I also have doubts his drafting was legit, I believe the fix was in, the NFL let it be know Michael Sam gets drafted. With all the hype surrounding him, there would have been backlash in our overly politically correct society if he went undrafted. That is why he was one of the last picks in the last round drafted by a "safe" team the St. Louis Rams, Sam played college in state at Missouri. My prediction Sam will be a wash out in the NFL, and I believe he knows it that is why he wanted to be a reality TV star.
