Craig Neal

Greetings to all!

I hope everyone has had an excellent week! A man who I assume had a great week Lobo Basketball Head Coach, Craig Neal. You knew we'd start here, right? I mean, does UNM Hoops season ever really end in this town and state? I don't think so. Honestly, do you as a fan even want it to come to a conclusion? Doubtful….so here we are fresh off another hot hoops story. This one has Craig Neal receiving an extra two years tacked onto his existing deal which will now run through the 2019-20 season. Why did Paul Krebs give this to Neal just a couple of weeks after saying he absolutely was not going to do so? The answer is simple…if not a bit unjustified in my opinion. The University of South Florida came calling, allegedly, for Neal and despite the job being filled by a Kentucky assistant, the writing was on the wall for Krebs and the athletic department because it's now nearly standard procedure that contracts mean nothing when a coach has the slightest leverage whatsoever to show to a university that indicates he may be exploring greener pastures. I personally long for the days where this didn't happen with any regularity. Not because it was banned or outlawed but because it's simply not how folks went about conducting business. Should Craig Neal have refused this extension? Absolutely not….but I wish contracts still meant something and for it's terms to be changed the circumstances had to be radical……not simply because the person hired did what was basically already expected of him..which is exactly what Neal did this year. No more, certainly no less.

Have a great week!
